Alice Mclarty (Harvey Larson) Mclarty

Alice J. Larson McLarty, age 98, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away on Friday, January 20, 2017.

Alice was born October 30, 1918 in Spokane, Washington to Orme W. and Martha Harvey. The family moved to Oregon in November 1918, moving around the state, eventually ending up in Roseburg in 1946.
Alice married Gordon Larson on May 14, 1938. They spent 25 years together until Gordon's passing November 22, 1963. Together they had four children; Donald, Joyce, Florence, and Dennis. Alice was a career wife and mother until 1964, working with March of Dimes, Unicef, Cub Scout Leader, Bluebird Leader, Campfire Leader, and 4-H Leader. Alice was married to Marvin McLarty on April 24, 1965. Marvin passed away November 6, 2003.

Alice decided to go to college at 48 years old, and graduated with her Bachelors degree in teaching in 1972. She taught at Camas Valley for 11 years and then substituted around Douglas County for another 12 years. After retiring from teaching she became an Instructor and Assistant State Coordinator of 55 Alive Mature Driving.

Alice enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crafts. She was a member of the Garden Valley Church of Christ. She was also a TOPS member and involved in the Cascade Historical Motor Club, a member of the Rebekahs and also holds the honor of giving the name "The Stray Angels" to her oldest son's group of friends who eventually became the car club of the same name.

Alice was preceded in death by parents, her husband Gordon; husband Marvin; and daughter Joyce Wolske. She is survived by her son Donald (Gini) Larson, son in law Dave Wolske; daughter Florence (Zales) Ecton; and son Dennis (Shannon) Larson. Stepdaughters Shirley McLarty, Patricia McLarty, and Kathy McLarty Riehl 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Margaret Mathiesen.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Garden Valley Church of Christ, Roseburg, Oregon.
