AMY MARIE (PRATER) BAKER, 90 passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009 in a local care center after a long bout with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born April 8, 1919 in Amity, Oregon on a farm near McMinnville to Edith (Jones) and Robert Prater. The Prater family moved to Junction City, Oregon in 1928 and ran a dairy farm until moving to Coos Bay, Oregon in 1938. Amy met Ford O'neal Baker and they were married in May 1940. Ford preceded her in death in 1979. Amy spent most of her life in Camas Valley, Oregon. She also lived with and was cared for by her granddaughter Tina M. Fisher. From 1984 to 2007 Amy shared her life with Bill Petheram of Lookingglass. Amy enjoyed everything outdoors. She treasure hunted while her husband fished. Amy also collected anything that was worth a nickel. She was in charge of recycling prior to our nation caught on. Amy always canned and froze the annual harvest including her favorite meat, venison. Another favorite was attending all sporting events that had a grandchild participating. Amy was also very active in the local Square Dancing circle for over 25 years. Survivors include her son Garry David Baker who was born in 1944; 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Amy was also preceded in death in 1986 by her son Byron who was born in 1940. At the family's request, no service will be held. Private cremation rites have been held.
