Drew never knew a stranger. From the time he could walk, he was making friends with everyone around him. Andrew loved people and was happiest surrounded by a host of best friends. He always was there to lend a helping hand when others needed it, along with a bright smile. Andrew (Drew) Cole Mendenhall, age 19, of Sutherlin, Oregon, passed away suddenly on September 7th, 2020 following a car accident. Andrew was born in Roseburg, Oregon on June 27th, 2001. He graduated from Sutherlin Valley Online Academy in 2019.
Drew had recently started working for Lauren Young Tires in Roseburg and looked forward to learning and growing in his employment. He enjoyed all things outdoors, especially riding his dirt bike. He loved being with his friends and being a friend to all. Andrew spent his last day on the dunes riding – he always said he felt the most free when he was riding at the dunes.
Andrew is survived by his parents, Darren and Nadia (Al-Ruwaih) Mendenhall, his little brother Owen, grandparents Dennis and Debbie Mendenhall and Bernice Al-Ruwaih, his Auntie May, uncle George, uncle Chris, and cousin Zoey, the love of his life, Makayla Jordan and her parents Chris and Natalie Jordan and other family and many “best” friends.
Andrew’s final wishes were to have his ashes scattered at the top of Banshee Hill. A private ceremony will be held to honor Andrew’s request.
The funeral service will be held on October 10, 2020, at one o’clock at Romantic River Gardens, 8140 Tyee Rd, Umpqua, Oregon. Pastor Paul Glazner of Family Church will be officiating. Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses is handling funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Umpqua Valley Youth For Christ – Motorcycle Ministry. A memorial account has also been set up at Umpqua Bank for anyone wanting to help the family with expenses.
