Anthony Joseph Haber, age 75, long-time resident of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on October 7, 2018, at St. Vincent’s hospital in Portland, Oregon following complications from surgery.
Tony was born on November 4, 1942, in New York, New York. He was adopted by Antoinette Zellerbach Haber and Joseph Lester Haber, and lived his formative years in California. His parents preceded him in death.
Tony is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary Haber. He is also survived by his children and grandchildren who he adored; Samuel (Shannon) Haber, Tony (Holly) Haber, Marie (Paul) Boardman (who was his niece but always loved as a daughter), Larry Mathis (family friend who grew up with the Habers); his grandchildren, Angela and Lucas Haber and Moriah Hoshowski; Francesca, Anthony, and Emma Haber; Cameron and Brianna Boardman. Tony is also survived by his siblings, Joe (Sandy) Haber Jr. and Michael (Sheila) Cole. Tony’s siblings Jeff Cole and Vicki Haber preceded him in death.
Tony was a pillar of the community. He worked for the Roseburg School District and for Mercy Medical Center. His passion was expanding and creating much of the Mercy Medical Center people know today. During his 36 years with Mercy he supervised the construction of Mercy Medical Center, Linus Oaks Retirement Center, Oregon Surgery Center, the satellite doctor’s offices on Mercy grounds and Mercy Canyonville. In retirement, he formed his own company, ToMar Consulting, where he worked with the Glide School District and supervised the construction of the Community Cancer Center.
When he wasn’t working he could always be found managing the family ranch on Akin Lane in his flannel shirt and suspenders. He will be remembered for his poolside barbeques, throwing parties with friends, and his tacos and tequila sunsets. His Christmas decorations were epic-- and probably used by local pilots as a landmark when flying into the Roseburg Airport. He loved goofing around in the pool with his children and grandchildren, gardening, spending time with family and his many pets from steers and goats to cats and dogs. He will always be remembered for the love and laughter he brought to the world. He will remain in our hearts Forever.
