Antone Frank "Tony" Shukle

ANTONE "TONY" F. SHUKLE 101, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014. He was born May 15, 1912 in Roundup, Montana, one of nine children born to John and Catherine Shukle. Tony moved from Spokane, Washington to Roseburg, Oregon in 1935. He worked for Gile Packing and Prune plant and Joelson Lumber and for his brother-in-law at Ritter's Funeral Home. Tony served as the Roseburg Fire Dept. Deputy Fire Chief for 9 years and was a volunteer with the fire dept. for more than 50 years. Prior to retiring, Tony was owner of Long & Shukle Memorial Chapel. On December 30, 1940 in Roseburg, Oregon he married Vera Upright. Tony was a US Navy veteran of WW II, serving in the South Pacific and received the Purple Heart. He was an active member of the Umpqua Lions Club, St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. In honor of Tony, the Umpqua Lions renamed the Lions Den, the Tony Shukle Lions Den. Survivors include his children James Shukle (Claudia), Toni Rhodes (Littell) and his granddaughter Sasha Braghero (Paul).Tony was preceded in death by his siblings and his wife Vera. A private family service will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made in Tony's memory to the Umpqua Lions Club P.O.Box 57, Roseburg, Oregon 97470.
