Stepped from her home into heaven on Friday, October 29, 2010, at the age of 86. She was born on October 24, 1924, in Grant County, South Dakota, to Wiley and Bernice Jacobs. Her family moved from South Dakota to Roseburg while she was in high school and she called Roseburg home from that time forward. Arda was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ralph and Lyle and her husband, Bob. She is survived by sister, Lela Toye; brother, Leroy Jacobs and wife, Carolyn; son, Mark Garrett and his wife, Sabrina; step-sons, David Stults and wife, Bernie and Brian Stults; grandchildren, Christy Melvin and husband, Joe; Matt Garrett and wife, Jennifer; Brianna Garrett and Bethany Garrett, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Arda was a lover of people, but especially her family. She always stood up for the underdog and took a number of kids into her home during their difficult times. What she was as a person came as a result of her Christian faith. Arda was a lover of Jesus and was active in her church, in Bible study and in her support of Christian missions. She was also a great sports enthusiast. Arda was a long-time supporter of Doc Stewart's baseball and tried never to miss a home game. She spent a good deal of time watching America's team, the Atlanta Braves, and the Portland Trailblazers. Arda will be greatly missed by her family and friends. But, the good news is that those of us that have a personal relationship with Jesus will see Arda again in heaven. There will be no funeral services at Arda's request. Private interment will be at the Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
