ARMELLA ANNE BAILEY 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2012 at Chantele's Loving Touch in Sutherlin, Oregon. She was born on May 27, 1915 in Waterloo, Iowa where she grew up, graduated from high school and entered the work force. She began her secretarial career in Des Moines, Iowa. Following Pearl Harbor, she and a girl friend moved to California where she found a position in Los Angeles as a secretary for the F.B. I. In the early 1960's she moved to Roseburg, Oregon where she met her husband James Dewey Bailey and started her new career as a legal secretary in 1962, retiring in 1980. In addition to working full time in a law office she found time to join the Sutherlin Garden Club where she held several offices including president of the local chapter and then State District Director. Anne joined Mercy Auxiliary where she served as local president and then Director of Area VI, which is comprised of hospitals in Roseburg, Grants Pass, Medford, Ashland, Klamath Falls and Lakeview. She was active in her church, serving on the Pastoral Council and Alter Society. Anne was also the organist and pianist for St. Joseph Church and for the Veterans Administration. She also volunteered at Mercy Care Center (Umpqua Valley Nursing) where she played for the residents. When her health began to fail in 2001, she moved to Oak Park Assisted Living Community where she lived until moving to Chantele's two months prior to her death. Anne was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband. A Memorial Mass will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 12:10 pm. Father Paneer Selvam, Celebrant. Private inurnment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
