Barbara Markoff, born September 12, 1931, lost her battle with cancer on Friday, June 25, 2010. Barbara grew up in Detroit and Grand Rapids, Michigan. After earning her diploma from Michigan State University, Barbara taught 3rd grade for a short time prior to devoting her life to raising and nurturing her family. Following the death in 1975 of her husband of 19 years, Robert M. Markoff, Barbara worked in Southern California, retiring from the Cal. State Board of Equalization in 2001. Upon her retirement, Barbara moved to the community of Little Brook in Green, and was accepted and loved by those around her. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and loved the community card games. Barbara also volunteered for the SMART program in Green. She soon became involved with the Roseburg Alliance Church, delivering sermons and books to church members who couldn't get to services. With the leading and care of Pastor Dennis Pust, Barbara trusted Jesus for eternal life. With the help and love from her many dear friends, Barbara's faith continued to grow. Most importantly, she found hope and forgiveness. Barbara was known to all by her warm smile and her kind and generous nature. Barbara is survived by her daughter Cheryl and husband David Hardman of Yucaipa, California; daughter Lisa and husband Steve Nelson of Glide, Oregon; son Robert and wife Jamie of Highland California; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Elaine Houston and husband Jim of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and a brother Herbert Sperry and wife Barbara of Brighton, Michigan. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Roseburg Alliance Church, 1265 NW Garden Valley Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Community Cancer Center in Roseburg.
