Betty Josephine Williamson

July 8, 1930 — May 16, 2018

Betty Josephine Williamson passed peacefully, after a long road and one helluva a fight (like a Banty Rooster!) on Wednesday, 16 May 2018 at the age of 87.  She was born 8 July 1930 in DeQueen, Arkansas to Lillard and Jessie House and was one of five children.  At the young age of 14, she drove her parents and siblings, “in the Buick,” along Route 66 to California where they settled down.  Several years later, she moved to Oregon, where she provided a loving home for her husband (Ed), daughter (Barbara), sons (Richard and Brian), and step-daughter (Linda).
Betty’s hands were rarely still (especially when she wagged her finger or pointed thumb, if you were in trouble or she was giving you “direction”).  She loved creating things - having learned to sew at a very young age. She also loved to crochet and was an avid quilter.  Betty loved to cook and bake from a store of “secret recipes” that she passed on, with only a list of ingredients - no measurements - for her heirs to figure out. (Her grandson, Duane, holds the trophy for figuring out her coveted biscuit recipe!)  Side note:  She only touched the biscuit, she did not taste it.  She also developed an affinity for spooning up Wild Berry Magic Cups, that she would rarely share, she said it “was pretty good.”
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Williamson, siblings Lawrence (Larry), Roy “Gubby,” and Gene House, and grandson Anthony (Tony) Williamson.
Betty is survived by her sister Laverne Myers (Ed), daughter Barbara Richardson, sons, Richard Williamson (Debbie) and Brian Williamson, step-daughter Linda Kooken (Rodney), grandchildren Duane Richardson (Kimberlee), LaDonna Hollenbeck, James “JP” Phillips, Kyla Hendershott, Joshua Kelly-Williamson, Garth Kelly-Williamson, great-grandchildren Cory Richardson and Alexis Richardson, and many nephews and nieces. Betty was especially fond of her niece and nephew, Robin and Tim Aiken, who, after moving to Roseburg, were always happy to help their Aunt Betty, in any way they could.  They would often take her to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, and to run errands.  Betty loved how any outing, with Tim, always included joy and laughter.
In the weeks preceding her death, Betty had many visitors, with whom she shared memories, laughs and even a “martini.” (She preferred Brian’s drink, rather than hers, as she thought her drink was “weak.”) Betty was a wonderful, tenacious, and witty woman who was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished.
