79, Passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Manor House Memory Care Community of Roseburg, where she called her home.
Betty was born in Burlington, Colorado on October 22, 1932, to Dan and Lillian Stanley. In later years, the family moved to Forest Grove, Or. She attended Forest Grove Union High School and graduated in 1950. She married her life partner, Richard (Dick) Yurk in March 1951 and moved to Sutherlin that September, beginning a devotion to husband and children for 61 years.
As a homemaker, she possessed a special love in her heart for children and focused on ministering the gospel to them through teaching Sunday School and Good News Clubs with Child Evangelism Fellowship. She later set her heart passion on volunteering her time to visiting the elderly at Rose Haven Nursing Home. Knowing the happiness children gave the elderly, "Grandma Betty" would occasionally load up the car with grandchildren and friends and experience unforgetting rewards of smiles and laughter.
Betty also dedicated her time in supporting her oldest son, Cary and family, in their missionary work with OMF International in Hong Kong, and participated in various OMF intercessory prayer ministries.
Betty lived and loved to spend her time with her four grandchildren, and later her great grandchildren. She devoted herself to teaching them about Jesus and poured her love on them every minute they were together.
She was a cancer survivor, but suffered several medical setbacks later on that would lead her to the Manor House care home with her husband Dick. Thorough it all , she grasped onto a strong faith in Jesus Christ, love for her family, and devoted to prayer until her very last breath.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Dick, her parents, Dan and Lillian Stanley, and two brothers, Gene and Fred Stanley. She is survived by her two sons, Cary Yurk of Hong Kong and Lonnie Yurk and his wife Jane of Sutherlin; four grandchildren, Kelsie Yurk of Beaverton, Or.; Kristen Larson and her husband Rhett of Bend Or.; Hannah Yurk of Australia; Lyndi Collins, and her husband Will of Australia. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, Melia Larson and Landon Larson of Bend, Or.; Caitlyn Collins and William Collins of Australia.
A memorial Service will be held Saturday April 7, 2012 at 1pm at Sutherlin Chapel of the Roses. Please visit Betty's website at
