Blanche Havener (Mcgrath) Havener

February 16, 1926 — November 29, 2017

Mary Blanche Havener (maiden name McGrath) passed away on November 29, 2017 at the age of 91. She is survived by her sons Jeff (and wife Kathy), Glenn (and wife Claudia), and Kevin. She is also survived by three siblings, Ernie, Joe and Gladys.

Blanche was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, into a large family. After growing up, while working at a joint USA/Canada air force base in Labrador, she met Jack Havener, a serviceman in the U.S. Army. They married and moved to New York City. While raising her three sons, Blanche worked in sales in New York. After her sons were teenagers, Blanche, Jack and Kevin lived in North Miami Beach, Florida. Blanche was a greeting card store manager there. After Blanche and Jack retired, they moved to Oregon, to be closer to where their three sons had relocated.

Blanche was a kind and compassionate person with strong intuition and emotional intelligence. She maintained a positive outlook on the world (even though she read the newspaper every day). She had a ready smile and a great sense of humor. She loved having a good time, whether it was listening to live music, playing cards, or traveling. She loved taking art classes and excelled at stained glass and watercolors. She volunteered in literacy (teaching reading) programs, and for Meals on Wheels.

Blanche's wit, wonderful smile, and kind gentle energy will be greatly missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.

Because the relatives are so spread out, there will be no formal Memorial Service; please remember Blanche in your heart. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Parkinson's Resources of Oregon or to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Thank you very much.
