Bradley Scott Ewens

July 13, 1962 — September 27, 2012

Bradley Scott Ewens Our dearly loved Brad passed away on September 27, 2012. Brad was born in Roseburg on July 13, 1962 to parents Jim and Judy Ewens. Brad graduated from Roseburg High School in 1980. While a junior and senior in high school, he played second base for Doc Stewart's baseball, part of a championship team. In later years, you would find Brad playing shortstop in church league softball. He graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology degree in 1985. He was always conscientious about his studies while attending OSU and was known for his hard work and dedication. After graduation, Brad remained a true beaver fan, even though he ended up falling in love and marrying an Oregon Duck. Brad worked for Bi-Mart pharmacies in Roseburg and Sutherlin since 1987. He was known for being meticulous and precise on the job, the "go-to" guy with the answers. Although serious about his work, he always found time to play a prank or two on his co-workers. Brad was the consummate outdoorsman. He was active in the Rod and Gun club since age twelve. After working at the office all day, he looked forward to heading to the high country and being a mountain man. There was little that he couldn't do. He loved elk and deer hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, kayaking, bicycling and skiing. His knowledge of the outdoors was impressive. Out in nature, every other sentence out of his mouth demonstrated his wry sense of humor to draw a smile or a laugh from his friends...a joke about the guys camping or fishing on the other side of the lake, or some other woodsman humor that took his companions inside the mind of a forest animal, for example. During a hospital stay, he asked the nurse if he could have an "elk-flavored" shake. He also knew how to work with his hands and how to manage and organize his home projects, always active and motivated to "do" a man's work. Anyone who knew Brad would recognize him in his signature camouflaged pick-up truck and his casual camo outfit on his days off. He was known for doing camo classy. Brad was a member of several local churches in his lifetime. He grew up attending Wellspring Bible Fellowship. For many years, Brad and his family were members of Redeemer's Fellowship, and are current members of Covenant Life Fellowship. In 1988, Brad went forward at a men's retreat and prayed to be a "First-Chair" Christian, a man that seeks to live for Christ in all that he does. A few years later, he began dating Heidi, and asked a friend, "So, what do you think of her? I'm thinking about proposing." He loved Jesus Christ, his wife and family. He would talk with close friends about how important his wife and kids were to him, and how proud he was of their accomplishments and his love for them all. A man of few words, Brad treated others with kindness, respect, and generosity, always slow to judge or criticize. He was measured and principled, but most of all, he was a good friend to anyone who knew him. He was the kind of friend to whom you would say as Paul did to Timothy, "Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience the way my forefathers did, as I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day. Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy." (2 Timothy 1:2-4) Brad is survived by his wife Heidi, whom he married in Roseburg on June 27, 1992, and their children; Elise, Brandon, and Emma. Brad is also survived by his parents, Jim and Judy Ewens, and his sister Debbie Cooley, all of Roseburg. A celebration of Brad's life will be held on Saturday, October 6 at 3:00 at Wellspring Bible Fellowship. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Covenant Life Fellowship, PO Box 1765, Roseburg, OR, 97470 or to Umpqua Valley Christian Schools, 359 Roberts Creek Road, Roseburg, OR 97471.
