Brenda Leone Gardner

June 27, 1920 — April 7, 2012

Brenda Leone Gardner, 91, of Roseburg passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2012 in Roseburg. She is the daughter of Alexander Morice and Jetrette Leone Briggs DeLong. Brenda moved with her family from Calgary, Canada to Glendale, California when she was 2 years old. She had wonderful memories of summers spent at Lake Arrowhead, California with her family and her father's Chris Craft "woody" speedboat called the "Four Daughters". After high school she attended Oregon State University graduating with a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and it was also there that she met her loving husband John Gardner. The war was going strong so John was shipped out and Brenda did her dietetic internship at UC Berkely. John and Brenda married in Corvallis in 1945 celebrating 66 years of marriage in December. After living in Portland, they moved to Roseburg and started a family. Brenda was always a loving mother and protector. She always had a sparkle in her eyes, a beautiful smile, along with a sense of humor that kept everyone laughing right up to her last day with us. She was always busy in her kitchen and in her garden. Her garden flowers flourished, and she would carefully pick them and produce wonderful arrangements. Brenda served on the Roseburg Planning Commission, was a member of the Methodist Church in downtown Roseburg and a member of the America Association of University Women (AAUW). Brenda is survived by her loving husband, John, three daughters Carole (Scott) Morris, Susan (Bob) Williamson and Wendy (Phil) Singleton. She is also survived by two sisters, Mae Rea Glockner of Roseburg and Shirley Johnstone of Glendale, California, along with grandchildren Julie Morris, Bryan Morris, Emily Magstadt (Nathan) and John Williamson and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be at First United Methodist Church on Saturday April 14, 2012 at 10 AM with interment to follow at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday 1 to 5 PM at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses.
