CECIL N. THOMPSON JR 88 of Roseburg, Oregon died Monday, September 26, 2011. He was born on April 7, 1923 in Pasadena, California to Cecil N. and Verna (Pennington) Thompson. Cecil graduated from Glide High School in 1941 and then enlisted in the US Navy. On December 23, 1944 he married Arlene Meyer and settled in the Roseburg area after being medically discharged from the Navy in 1945. He then attended OIT and received his license as a watchmaker/clockmaker in 1951. Cecil was employed by Ideal Concrete in the early 60's and later by Roseburg Forest Products. Cecil was an accomplished artist, master carpenter, gardener as well as an excellent watchmaker. He loved the Word of God and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for over 60 years. Survivors include his daughters Theresa Lang and her husband Mark and Jill Pratt and her husband Tim; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren as well as beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Cecil was laid to rest on September 30, 2011 next to his beloved wife Arlene and near their son Stephen at Roseburg Memorial Gardens will Pastor Andrew Farhat officiating. The family withes to express their sincere appreciations to all the staff at Bridgewood Rivers Assisted Living for their loving care of Cecil over the past few months as well as the physicians and nurses at Mercy Medical Center for their compassionate care of Cecil and his family.
