Passed from this life after a long battle with health conditions on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, in Sutherlin, Oregon. He was in the hospital in the comfort of his family, one moment talking and laughing, a quiet sigh and he was gone. He was born in Roseburg, Oregon, to Nancy Jewel Gilliland and Charles Earnest Clinton on October 18, 1954. While Dave was in the 4th grade, his father died, after that he spent a great deal of time living with his granny Margaret Clinton.
Dave was a veteran of the United States Army and served from August 31, 1973, to August 30, 1976; during this time he was a light weapon infantry man stationed in Camp Casey, Korea and Fort Carson, Colorado. Dave continued his service to his country as a member of the National Guard serving from December 1, 1984, to February 28, 1998, in Charlie Company 1249th Engineers Battalion as a heavy equipment operator. He retired from service as a Sergeant/E5. During his service he received two Army Commendation Medals; Army Achievement Medal; Federal Service Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal.
After his discharge from the Army and his return to Oregon, Dave worked in the lumber industry. He was employed at Hult Lumber Co. (Riddle); International Paper (Gardner) and Roseburg Forest Products, from where he retired. After retiring, he and his wife owned The Cel Tavern in Sutherlin from 1996 to 2003. Dave was a very active member of the Eagles Lodge #3508 for 35 years, and spent many hours with family and friends doing Lodge activities. Dave loved his friends and family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, playing pool and poker.
