Charles Sherman Saxton, age 93 of Roseburg, Oregon passed away on Monday January 18, 2010. He was born in St. Helens, Oregon on April 9, 1916 to Sherman and Pauline (Stump) Saxton. Charles married Marie O. Prue on March 12, 1943 in Portland, Oregon. During WWII, he worked for civil construction building Air Bases in Lucian Islands. Charles lived in Douglas County for 60 years, where he worked as a logger and retired at 72 years of age. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Saxton and a daughter Marie Marshall. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marie O. Saxton, son; Laurence Saxton, daughter; Lynn Moore and her husband Jeff, nephew; Gilbert Kammeyer, numerous nieces, nephews, four grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday January 22, 2010, at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses. Pastor Clyde Davenport will be officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow at his daughter Lynn's residence, 4169 Carnes Road, Roseburg, Oregon. Private interment will be within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
