Clare Eaton (Sellers) Eaton

CLARE ELIZABETH EATON 90, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 in a local hospital. She was born September 22, 1926 in Merritt, B.C., Canada to Wayne and Freda Sellers. Clare lived with family in the back country near Pennask Lake at the Tea Range until age 12. In 1938 the family moved to the Princeton area, trailing 300 head of cattle and 15 horses. Her mother and sisters were the ones mainly in charge of the cattle and horses. That trip on the road took 3 weeks. After high school, Clare went to business school in Penticton. She worked in Vancouver, BC until 1946 when she moved to Portland, Oregon to be near her Aunt Murial. Clare married Berwyn (Bert) Eaton in Portland, Oregon in 1948. Bert and Clare moved to San Francisco, California and then to Santa Ana, California. When Bert was discharged from the service in 1953 they moved to Roseburg, Oregon. Clare got a job with Sun Studs, Inc, a sawmill, where she worked as the office manager for the next 40 years. After retiring in 1994, Clare enjoyed traveling and going back to family in Canada every year. She also traveled to Iceland and Alaska with her sister Brenda a couple of times. Clare loved to play card games at the Winston Senior Center, along with puzzles, picture taking, Rodeo's, Old Time Fiddlers, swimming at the YMCA, crocheting and knitting. She made the family amazing quilts. Survivors include her son Wally Eaton and his wife Debbie; sister Brenda Crimmon, Mona Willis and her husband Abe, and Anne Mills; grandchildren Aaron Eaton, Tyson Eaton and his wife Lathena, Justin and Kendra Walker; great grandchildren Braxton, Kade and Jayona; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Clare was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 30 years, Bert in 1978; sisters Verna Gilchrist and Norma Hilton. There will be a short graveside service, non burial, at Roseburg Memorial Gardens at 12:00 PM on Saturday, July 15, 2017. Chaplain Sabin Gautreau will officiate. Please join the family for a potluck, ice cream, cake and a Celebration of Clare's life on Saturday, July 15 at 1:00 PM at the Winston Community Senior Center. Private cremation rites have been held.
