Clark L. Hadfield, age 90, a long-time resident of Glide, went to be with his Lord on May 16, 2017. He established his home in Glide where he lived with his family for 45 years and attended Glide Assembly of God and Glide Baptist Church.
Clark was born February 27, 1927 in Bellingham, WA to Roy and Nina (Colby) Hadfield. His previous residences include Big Lake and Onalaska, WA and Roseburg, OR. He graduated from Onalaska High School in 1944 and attended college in Moscow, ID.
Clark enlisted in the Army in 1944 where he earned his Sharp Shooter Medal. After basic training, he was assigned to complete his service at the Pentagon. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he married his first wife, Eileen. They settled in Roseburg and began to raise their family.
Clark worked in the automotive field, starting at the old Nash garage and then at Ford Motor co. as the supervisor of the parts department. Clark was a man who loved nature, enjoying camping, fishing and hiking. He took pleasure in maintaining the home he built in Glide and caring for the lawn, many flowers and orchards.
With his young son, he became involved with Scouting as a leader and Scoutmaster from Cub Scouts to Eagle Scouts and several years beyond.
Clark was a giving man, ready to lend a hand to whoever and whenever needed. He became a volunteer with the Glide Fire Department where he served for 30 years (1973-2003) and retired as a Captain. He earned Firefighter/EMT of the Year in 1998.
He became involved with Medic 4 Ambulance Service and won an award in 1991 for his service to the community. Clark also earned the honor of Glide Citizen of the Year in 1990.
After the death of his first wife, Clark met and married his present wife and companion, Irene. They shared 18 years together filled with much happiness enjoying cruising and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Nina Hadfield, his first wife Eileen, and half brother Gerry Jones. Clark is survived by his devoted spouse Irene Hadfield, his daughter Linda Hadfield, his son Michael Hadfield, his stepdaughter Lynn Williams, and stepson Alan Williams and wife Karin.
A memorial service for Clark will be at Glide Baptist Church, 357 Glide Loop Drive, on Saturday, June 3rd at noon, with a luncheon to follow.
