Corene Connie' Koester passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, four days after suffering a massive stroke; she was 88 years old.
She was born Corene Janis Miller and grew up in Armstrong, Iowa. After high school, she trained at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines and became a registered nurse. While working at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, she met the love of her life: Dr. John Frederick Koester.
John and Connie married in 1948 and subsequently had three children: Gretchen, John and Tom. The children were raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Connie was a devoted housewife and mother. While Dr. Koester was still practicing medicine, he and Connie also lived in Iowa City and Barrington, Illinois. They retired to Arizona in 1996.
Connie was an accomplished crafter and quilter. She was a skilled bridge player and loved University of Iowa football and Cubs baseball. She cultivated friendships where ever she lived. She loved a long chat with a friend. A note from a friend never failed to lift her spirits. She cherished any time spent with a friend.
Dr. Koester preceded Connie in death in 2005 and she decided to move to Roseburg to be closer to family. She lived at Riverview Terrace and enjoyed the companionship and activities there. She became a devoted Doc Stewart's Baseball fan and was always willing to take a ride about town or the countryside.
Connie is survived by her three children and their spouses: Dan, Diane and Brenda. She had five grandchildren that she adored: Quentin, Lauren, Jonathan, Kelly and Cameron.
A private internment will take place at the Koester family cemetery in Davenport, Iowa. A photo memorial will be posted at
