Corinne June Harpham Mctaggart

March 8, 1921 — August 31, 2018

Corinne June Harpham McTaggart, of Roseburg, OR, passed away in her own home: on August 31, 2018, at the age of 97. Corinne was born in Prineville, OR, on March 8, 1921. She was the oldest of four daughters born to Esther Mills Harpham and Vernon V. Harpham. She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Vernon Harpham, husband Holden McTaggart, sister Marilyn Pierce, and her son Turf.

When Corinne was nine years old the family moved from Prineville to Roseburg where her father was to be the supervisor of the Umpqua Forest. She and her sister Marilyn attended Roseburg schools and graduated from RHS. When twin sisters Joyce and Janet arrived, Corinne and Marilyn (in their early teen years) became ready and willing big sisters. She met and married Holden McTaggart when they were both at OSU in 1942. He was then drafted and sent to the Aleutian Islands and Corinne finished her degree. While still in the US Army, Holden and Corinne spent a short time in Texas and then in Washington D.C., where Corinne found work creating salads at the Pentagon; then they settled in Roseburg. They had three children, Heather Briar, and Turf. In the early 1950s, she began her work in Home Economics, serving as Douglas County Home Extension agent, and then teaching at RHS where she stayed for 30 years while Holden was a local builder. The year he built their hilltop home (1987) he became ill and died in 1988. Corinne and her daughter Heather continued the property management business.

Corinne was always an activist in the community, contributing time, energy, and money to many causes. She was actively affiliated with the American Field Service at RHS, the League of Women Voters, Association of American University Women, National Organization of Women (in its 11 years of existence), Womens History Month, and the Umpqua Unitarian Universalist Congregation.

She is survived by her twin sisters Joyce Swanson and Janet Woodward, both of Roseburg; daughter Heather Grieve (Mike)of Roseburg; son Briar McTaggart (Melissa) of Adelanto CA; granddaughters: Caley Tabor(Mike) of Rsbg, Carson Fayth (Obie) of Tacoma WA, and Bree McTaggart of Hayward CA; grandson, Taylor McTaggart of Campbell, CA; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Roseburg Country Club, 5051 Garden Valley Road.
