Dale "Ken" Wallick, 68, of Roseburg passed away on October 28, 2014 of pneumonia at Callahan Court where he had lived for the last month. He was born to Dallas and Grace (Vinyard) on August 2, 1946. Ken graduated from Narbonne High School in Harbor City California in 1964. He graduated from California State University at Long Beach in 1986 with a Bachelors' Degree in microbiology. Ken and his family came to Oregon in 1978 and lived in Sutherlin, Winchester, and the country on Ken's long desired "mini farm", where he raised chickens, pigs, rabbits and turkeys. He even planted a vineyard and remodeled an old farmhouse. He retired in 2005 after 32 years with the VA Hospital. After many years as a medical technologist he had become a highly skilled computer specialist and helped train other specialists in the VA system. Ken always loved the outdoors, especially backpacking in the mountains. He studied entomology, weather, viticulture and international cuisine. Ken and his wife of 44 years, Monica traveled throughout Europe and many other foreign locations. He was a great cook and could always cook foreign dishes. One of Ken's favorite organizations was Earthwatch, with which he volunteered on scientific research projects in Spain, Australia and Texas. He is survived by his wife, Monica who he married in 1968 and a brother, Douglas Wallick of Redlands, California. A special person in Ken's life was sister in law Victoria Romero who provided help to Monica in caring for Ken during the past ten years. Ken is preceded in death by his son, Damon Joseph Wallick and his parents.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Callahan Court, who were so thoughtful and loving in the last month of his life.
