Dallas McCalvy was born on May 30, 1944 in Muskegon, MI to Howard and Margaret McCalvy and passed away peacefully at his home in Roseburg, OR on November 20, 2023.
Dallas was the third of four children and grew up in Garrison, MN working on their small farm surrounded by lakes, trees and family. He graduated from Brainerd High School in 1962. He attended Brainerd Junior College to pursue a career in Wildlife Management. After briefly working a few odd jobs, Dallas worked for Ford Motor Company.
Dallas met Terry LeBlanc in 1963 and they were married in June of 1965. In 1969, Dallas and Terry moved to Roseburg, Oregon which is still their family home. Upon arriving in Oregon, Dallas worked for Champion Plywood and the Roseburg Lumber Print Shop. In 1970, Dallas joined The News Review and worked as a pressman for almost 27 years. After leaving The News Review Dallas worked for Raymond James Financial as a financial advisor and Orenco Systems in the shipping department until finally retiring in 2007.
Dallas enjoyed many things in his life. He loved camping every year with his family, working in his yard and teaching his girls how to fish. The family traveled to Minnesota frequently and loved going into the mountains every year to cut down a Christmas Tree and later traveled to Minnesota every winter to go ice fishing.
He was a member of the Stray Angels Car Club, and enjoyed preparing for and working at Graffiti Week every year. He restored a 1956 Chevy BelAir and had a huge smile on his face while driving the car during the Graffiti Week “Cruise” downtown.
Dallas was proud to volunteer. He was on the Roberts Creek Water District Board, Roseburg School District Budget Committee, Green Sanitary Budget Committee, and Cascade Community Credit Union, where he served on the Supervisory Board as Chairman, the Marketing Committee and on the Board of Directors as Treasurer. Dallas also helped co-coach a boys baseball team of 13 year olds. Dallas also gave blood for many years, equaling 14 gallons. He volunteered as a Docent at Wildlife Safari. He loved working in the bear tower and lion tower, but especially in the cheetah and tiger areas.
Dallas is survived by his wife of 58 years, Terry, his daughters Wendy & Bob Harris (Spokane, WA), Nicole Schott, (Camas, WA), and Sheli & Brian Robertson (Yorktown, VA), as well as his four grandchildren, Miranda Schott, Jordyn Schott, Isabella Harris and Joshua Robertson. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jim McCalvy, Norma Matson and Marcia Mudford.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 22, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Winston Community Center at 440 SE Grape Street, Winston, OR. Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses was in charge of the cremation. A second Celebration of Life will be held this summer in Garrison, MN for interment of his ashes.
