Daryl S. Alosa

May 15, 1948 — August 10, 2009

Daryl Salvatore Alosa passed away on Monday, August 10th, 2009 at the age of 61. He will be missed immensely by his family, co-workers, and many, many friends. Daryl was born in Concord, New Hampshire on May 15th, 1948. He attended Bishop Brady High School in Concord and later graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire. Daryl moved to Oregon in 1947 and spent the remainder of his life living amongst the trees in Idleyld Park, near the North Umpqua River and the mountain bike trails he so loved to ride. He rode his bike nearly everyday no matter what the weather was like. Daryl participated in mountain bike racing, finding the grueling courses and endurance races exhilarating challenge. He worked for over a decade planting trees and doing forestry work with the Golden Rockets workers' cooperative, in which he played a key management role. The hundreds of thousands of trees that Daryl planted will last much longer than your time here on this earth. The friendships Daryl developed during his Golden Rocket years will last forever. The Rockets gather every year to celebrate their friendships and mutual love of the forest near where they had worked. Daryl later returned to school at the University of Oregon where he earned a Masters Degree in Industrial Relations in 1987. The remainder of his career was spent working in the human resource field. He was the HR Director at Douglas Community Hospital for 10 years until its closure, then he worked in employee and labor relations and human resources for the Oregon Department of Transportation until his sudden death from a massive stroke. Daryl is survived by his wife and long-time partner, Meredith. After sharing their life together for nearly 30 years, his kind and gentle spirit will always be in her heart. He will also be sorely missed by his three sons, Zachary Alosa, Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, and Gavin Kendall, grandsons, Merak and Grayson, as well as his mother, step-father, a brother, six sisters, aunts, uncles and numerous nieces and nephews. Daryl was a warm, caring person who had a very active, fun-loving lifestyle. In addition to enjoying mountain bike riding and racing, Daryl loved swimming, skiing, listening to music, attending concerts and festivals, traveling, visiting with friends and watching the New England Patriots. We will all miss him very much. A visitation was held on Wednesday August 12, 2009 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held 12:10pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday August 13, 2009, in Roseburg, Oregon. Graveside committal will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
