Daryl Frank Chapman age 94, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Daryl was born December 11, 1920, at the home of his parents Daryl C. and Nellie B. Chapman, in Spokane, Washington. They moved to Umatilla, Oregon, the same year, then moved to Pendleton, Oregon, in 1931. He graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1938. He met his wife Flora Jean Horn that fall and they were married February 4, 1939, at the ranch home of her parents, Charles and Hannah Horn. He served his country during WWII, as a member of the Fifth Marine Division in Iwo Jima. Daryl was a lifetime member of the Fifth Marine Division Association, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and also a life member of the National Rifle Association. He worked in the wood products industry for about thirty-two years, primarily in Executive Management. Daryl retired to the Sutherlin, Oregon area in 1977. He is preceded in death by his wife Flora Jean. Daryl is survived by his son Duke Chapman and his wife Carolyn; daughter Annabel Gayle Hatch and her husband Lou; and daughter Penny Jean Corbett and her husband Kenneth; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the American Legion, charter sponsor of the new marine museum by Marine Heritage Foundation. My name appears on the walk of honor at Memorial at Marine Base Hawaii.
