David Smith Vogel, 94, of Sutherlin passed away on June 18, 2016. David Smith Vogel was born in San Francisco, California on December 20, 1921 to Arthur Leslie David Vogel and Stella Rosetta O'Dogherty Smith. He lived a long and loving life and he left this world to be reunited with his wife of 73 years, Pauline Bessie Vogel. David was a man of integrity who had a charismatic personality that endeared all to him. He was a fiercely loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. David enjoyed wood carving, boating, fishing, hunting, collecting vintage cars, and camping. David's character was beyond reproach. He was loyal, honest, sincere, compassionate, witty, creative, intelligent, and giving. David was a man who lived his life in the service of God, family, friends, country, and community. David held a Master's degree and was a beloved elementary principal in Campbell, California for over 30 years. He served his country in World War II in the European campaign. David was active in his church serving as an elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. He was also involved in his community by serving on Lions, Toastmasters and Kiwanis. David was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Bessie Vogel, and his daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Thomas, along with his sisters, Isabelle Taylor and Joan Hatch. He is survived by his sons, David Ralph Vogel and his wife Lori Jean Vogel, William Leslie Vogel and his wife Jennifer Ann Vogel, and his daughter, Diana Lynn Vogel Knee and her husband Gregory Allen Knee. Also surviving are grandchildren, Lindsey Vogel Rodrigues, Sarah Lynn Tynan, Allison Leslie Vogel Bochart, Katie Rose McHenry, Eric Robert Smith, and Joshua Jake Vogel Miller and step grandchildren: Michael O'Neal, Colton James McGranahan, Dillion Anthony McGranahan, Gabriel Aaron Knee, Jennifer Ann Raedyn, Erica Susan Hewlett, and Jeremy Daniel Knee. Also he is survived by great grandchildren: Claire, Vivienne, Evelyn, Zoe, Jolyn, Milo, Max, Cooper, Chase, Hailey, Taylor, Ella T., Ariana , Melody, Ella H., Arden, Malcolm, Cyrus, Florence, Jasper, and August.
A celebration of life for David S Vogel will be held at Calapooia Free Methodist Church, Sutherlin, Oregon on Monday June 27, 2016 at 11:00 am.
The twinkle in his blue eyes and his smile is a loss to this world and a gain to the next. In life some are takers and some are givers, he was a giver. Dave would end his obituary with, "President Roosevelt thanks you."
