Dave Johnson, 64, of Winchester, Oregon passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on May 28, 2012. He was born on June 30, 1947 in Coos Bay, Oregon to parents Clifford "Kip" and Dorothy Johnson. Dave graduated from Coquille High School, SWOCC, and attended the University of Oregon.
Dave served in the United States Marine Corp Reserves from 1969 to 1975. Dave has been in the financial industry since 1973 and for the last ten years has been employed at US Bank. He has been involved in numerous community service organizations including US Jaycees (former president and district director), Roseburg Lions Club (former president), Greater Douglas United Way (treasurer, campaign chair, finance committee chair, and member of the Board of Directors since 1989). He also served on the Board of Directors for Consumer Credit Counseling, Roseburg HS Booster Club, Cobb Street Learning Center, Roseburg Soccer Association, and the Oregon Escrow Council.
Some of the many awards he received were the Roseburg HS "Jim Gregory Booster of the Year" 2011-2012, the United Way "George Gratke Volunteer of the Year", the United Way "Chuck Plummer Staff Choice of the Year", the Oregon Lions "Sight and Hearing Foundation Fellow", the Oregon Lions "Helen Keller Benefactor" and the Lions Foundation "Melvin Jones Humanitarian Services".
Dave was a true fan of the Roseburg INDIANS and Oregon Ducks. He loved to bowl, play golf, and he never left home without his hand-held Yahtzee game. Dave was the host father for six exchange students from all over the world. He was all about his family and was always quick with a joke.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara, and two sons, Kyle and Brandon, Brandon's longtime girlfriend, Gretchen Kitzrow and his grand-dog Titan. Dave had one younger brother, Douglas Johnson, wife Christina of Keizer, Oregon. Dave is also survived by his mother-in-law, Nancy Pierce of Winchester, OR; sisters-in-law, Debi Macomb of Vancouver, WA; Connie Lobato (husband Danny) of Creswell, OR and Charlene Sherriff (husband Kelly) of Roseburg, OR; nieces and nephews include: Jason Bailey of Portland, OR; Sarah Johnson of New York, NY; Misty Duey of Vancouver, WA; Jason Lobato of Hillsboro, OR; Nathan Duey (wife Amanda) of Bandon, OR; GayLynn Lobato of Grass Valley, OR; Brady Sherriff of Roseburg, OR; Cousins: Jeff Call of Boise, ID; Anne Dyer Rodman of Los Angeles, CA.
His parents, his aunts Eleanor Dyer and Joan Aston and cousin Nancy Stewart predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, 1771 West Harvard Avenue, Roseburg, Oregon. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held in the church fellowship hall.
