David Eugene Yackle

February 28, 1950 — March 22, 2024

David was born February 28, 1950 in Charleston, South Carolina, the first child of Milton and Mary (Bell) Yackle. Through childhood, David had many happy memories, mostly involving playing baseball, moving with his family to Naval bases in Cuba, North Carolina, New Jersey, California, and finally to Illinois, where he graduated from Waukegan Township High School. After graduating, he entered the Marine Reserves during the Vietnam conflict. Coming of age during the late 1960's in the Chicago area, Dave had the opportunity to attend multiple music concerts by amazing and influential artists. While attending College of Lake County, he met his wife, Cynthia, before going on to obtain further degrees from Southern Illinois University, and ultimately his master’s from Roosevelt University. Dave and Cindy were married in 1977, shortly before he began his teaching career at Zion Benton High School. Daughters Deanna and Danielle followed shortly thereafter, completing their family. After teaching special education for 10 years in Illinois, the family moved to Oregon, where he taught for 20 more years, mostly at Fremont Junior High. Upon moving to Oregon, the family explored their new state and surroundings, going on many camping trips to the Oregon coast. One of their most memorable camping adventures involved visiting 12 states in 12 days, seeing some of the most beautiful sites America has to offer.

David was a lifelong baseball fan, more specifically, a Yankee fan, and passed his love and knowledge on to his daughters and grandkids. He was a devout fan of all the kids’ sporting events, band and choir concerts, theatrical performances, as well as any other special events they were involved in. He had a love for the "best" life had to offer, whether that be the best foods, movies or music, of which he was a self appointed expert connoisseur in each. He continued to attend music events through his life, although most were local community offerings. He also instilled the importance of family togetherness, showing his love for his entire family with his attendance in their life events and through all his actions. His presence and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

David is survived by his wife, Cynthia, daughters, Deanna (Ben Kercher) and Danielle (Rob Desot), and grandchildren, Paul, Molly, and Luke Kercher, Phoenix and Ivy DeSot. He leaves behind sister, Marliese (John White), nieces, nephews, family members, multiple lifelong friends (including schoolmates, Raoul Geary and Robbie Moran), as well as many local friends (including Joel and Cindy Mizell).

Services will be held at noon April 10, 2024, Wilson's Chapel of the Roses; interment at 2 pm., Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
