Dennis Clyde Horton died suddenly of cancer at his home in Roseburg last Friday. Dennis was born to Ronald & Virginia Horton in Taft, CA, August 31, 1956. He attended elementary and high school in Taft before the family moved to Merced, CA. Dennis joined the Navy in 1973 and served on USS Proteus in Guam through 1976 as a ship fitter. He was discharged Honorably in 1976. For a few years after discharge he went back and forth between Merced and Roseburg. In 1987 his love for hunting and fishing compelled him to buy a home in Roseburg and settle here for good. He loved it here, loved working at Con-Vey Keystone and loved his many friends. Dennis is survived by his mother, Virginia and stepfather Tim Marler of Florence, his daughter Ashley Horton of Roseburg, three sisters; Karen Horton and her partner Curtis Everett of Springfield, Rhonda Moore and her husband Carl of Junction City, and Angie Britt and her fiancee Don Foley of North Bend. Also surviving him are his Aunt Arlene Goodman of Taft CA, Aunt Pat Brownfield of Tulare CA, Uncle Bill Horton of McKenzie Bridge OR, Uncle Leo Horton of Taft CA, and Uncle Walter Schoppe of Sacramento CA. And by many friends in the Roseburg area, including Chris Sawyer, and Ed Gix. Dennis was very loving with family and friends. He loved to fish and now he's gone to the Great Fishin' Hole in Heaven. He will be missed by all who knew him. A big thank you to the following, the entire crew at Con-Vey Keystone. The doctors and nurses at the V.A. Hospital and the Hospice workers who tried to make things pain-free through his final days. Graveside services with military honors will be held Friday, April 2, 2010 at 1:00 pm within the grounds of Roseburg National Cemetery.
