Donald E. Lyons, beloved husband, father and brother was born July 11, 1932 in Neosho, Mo and went to be with Our Lord, May 22, 2011. He passed away in Kemp, TX, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was also stationed in Japan. He treasured his time with family and friends. He loved horses, especially, and all animals. He was a strong believer in country and community service. He retired from Douglas County Sheriff's Office, and then served as Chief of Police for the Canyonville Police Dept. After retiring again, he worked several years as security chief for Seven Feathers Casino. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shriners.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy and children: Karen Lyons, Mesa, AZ, Christie Potzner, Kemp, TX and Troy Potzner, Anchorage,AK. Grandchildren: J.D and Hunter Aguilera, Mesa,AZ Amanda Trapp, Kemp, TX, Aubrey Potzner of Aloha, OR, David Potzner of El Paso, TX. Sister Joyce Young in Hollister, CA, There is special place in his heart for newly found sisters Eldena Gearhart in Ohio, Helen McCright in PA, and Brother, Eldon in CA. and cousin Evert Lyons and wife Barbara of Neosho, Mo.
Beloved family includes Russ and Mirtha Hubbard of Roseburg, OR and Doug Hubbard of Lake Stevens, WA, and numerous other nieces and nephews. Special friends Austin and Marie Barnhurst of Mesquite, NV and Harvey and Clarice Denison of Canyonville, OR.
Preceding him in death was his mother, Lillian Cauhn Silva of Fredonia, AZ and nephew Rodney Tait of Broken Bow, OK.
Memorial services will be held at 2;00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses in Roseburg, OR.
