Doris Jean Insley of Roseburg, Oregon, deeply loved by family, friends and all who knew her, passed away on the 14th of January, 2016.
Doris was born to William and Augusta Moran in Fruitland, Idaho, on November 5, 1928. She was one of 5 children and had four brothers, Ed, Clifford, Dean and Mike, all of whom are still living.
Shortly after she was born, Doris' family moved to Oregon and became long-term Roseburg residents. Doris graduated from Roseburg High School in 1947 and on June 27 of that year, married Ted Insley, a Roseburg native. Their three sons, Brad, Greg and Chuck, were all born in Roseburg.
Although the family moved around the Northwest over the years, they always returned to Roseburg, where they eventually settled for good after Ted retired. After Ted's retirement, they built a home on their river property and spent many happy hours together on their back porch enjoying the view of their fields and the river. Doris was also a wonderful life partner to her husband; she always involved herself fully in their adventures together, whether it was home-making, farming, hunting, flying, travelling and tending her beloved flower garden.
Doris had a great love of people; she loved serving others and entertaining. Her favorite times of year were Thanksgiving and Christmas, because it meant that family would gather and she could be hostess to them. She also loved to travel and spent a lot of time in her last years exploring various corners of the US, but had a special love for Diamond Lake and the forests and mountains of the Pacific Northwest, including western Canada.
She was a great fan of baseball her entire life, watching as many games as she could. She loved to attend spring training camps in Arizona - she could talk about players, particularly those on her favorite team the Mariners, as if she herself were on the roster.
Doris loved to help others and was active in many civic organizations, often as the leader/president, such as Sojourners, Welcome Wagon, DeMolay and Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a charitable Sorority in Roseburg, as well as Cub, Boy and Explorer Scouts.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ted Insley, her three sons, her four brothers, 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and numerous other relatives.
