Doris Marie Myers

Doris Marie Myers died at her home in Sutherlin March 2, 2011. Doris was the daughter of Artemas Milton Finnell and Stella Ann James Finnell. She was born on April 10, 1935 in Whites, Washington where her father was the head saw filer for the White Star Lumber Company. Her family moved with the milling industry through Washington and Oregon. She lived in Dillard and attended Roseburg High School from 1950-1952 where she met her future husband Archie Clifton Myers. Doris moved to Tillamook in 1952 where she attended and graduated from Tillamook High School in 1953. Two days after graduation on May 31, 1953 she married Archie. Archie had joined the US Air Force and was stationed at Enid, Oklahoma by this time. Doris joined him there and followed on his next assignment to Greece. For the next 20 years Doris was the military wife seeing homes in Texas, Oregon, California, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, and Louisiana. Following Archie's retirement in 1972, Doris and Archie moved to Oregon where they made their home in Scotts Valley. They farmed and ranched in Scotts Valley where Doris raised Paso Fino horses and together they ran a truck garden selling produce locally. They were both active with the Yoncalla Saddle Club which hosted the annual 4th of July Rodeo. In 1996 Archie and Doris retired to Sutherlin, Oregon where in 1999 Archie died of cancer. Doris enjoyed gardening, quilting, bowling, traveling, and her many friends. Doris is survived by her brother Wesley Finnell and his wife Wanda, son Gale Myers and wife Renee of Colorado Springs, daughter Carol Duncan and husband Max of Elkton, grandchildren: Jennifer Lea Shepherd, Lisa Ann Alimenti, Rebecca Renay Rodgers, Ashley Marie Myers, Thomas Brandon Myers; and six great-grandchildren. Her husband, two siblings and a granddaughter passed away before her. Chapel of the Roses in Sutherlin is handling arrangements. Her ceremony of life will be held at the Elkton Baptist Church Monday, March 7, 2011 at 12:30. Private interment will follow at the Elkton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Mercy Medical Center Hospice, 2400 Stewart Parkway, Suite 200, Roseburg, Oregon 97471.
