Doris Lorraine Wadsworth died Tuesday, March 23rd in Eugene with her family, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. Doris was born on August 2, 1926 in Turlock, California to parents Harold and Julia Shevlin. Her older brother Kenneth died at age 5. She grew up in Turlock with her parents and both sets of grand parents. She met her husband Jim Wadsworth in high school. They got reacquainted and married after Jim returned home from serving in the Navy during World War II. They and their then two children Christie and Cindy moved to a ranch owned by Jim's parents in Dixonville, outside of Roseburg, in late 1948. Connie and Mike were born after they moved to Oregon. Her husband, Jim, preceded her in death. Doris had remained living on their ranch until 2006, when due to health reasons she moved in with her daughter Cindy in Washington and then later to a care facility in Eugene, close to Connie and family and friends.
Doris started her work career outside the home in the late 1950s working at Deer Creek grade school helping in the kitchen, then in the office and finally as the secretary. In 1961, she started working for Douglas County. Her first job with the county was helping Bob Hall in the dog control office. She continually worked her way up in different departments becoming County Clerk and then the first elected woman County Commissioner retiring in 1994.
She was a member of the Pine Grove Community Church and active in many many clubs and organizations. She was loved dearly by her family. She was a positive influence on them and the community and will be missed by all who knew and worked with her.
She is survived by her four children, daughter Christie Twete, Cindy Fowler and husband Ron, Connie Pratt and husband Tom, and son Michael Wadsworth. Ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A brother in law Gregor Wadsworth and his family and a sister in law Marijane (Wadsworth) Haile and her family.
