Dorothy Helen Branch
On December 24, 2018, Dorothy Branch passed on peacefully at her home at the age of 97. She was born to William and Ida (Lucht) Hossfield in Brown County, Baker, Kansas on November 9, 1921. After graduating Powhattan High School in 1939, Dorothy attended Huff Business School in Kansas City, Missouri. During WWII, She worked for North American Aviation in Kansas City. After the war she became employed by General Motors, Chevrolet Division. In 1945, she moved to Los Angeles, California and worked for the State Loan Investment Company.
In 1947, Dorothy married Forrest Branch at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, Kansas. From 1947 to 1956, the couple settled in Trona, California where Forest found employment. From 1956 to 1968, the family resettled in La Canada, California.
Active in school activities, Dorothy also became a leader for the Cub Scouts and the Blue Birds. She attended Gethsemane Lutheran Church in La Canada, California. In 1968, she and Forrest retired to Roseburg, Oregon. As a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sutherlin, Oregon, Dorothy faithfully participated in Vacation Bible School, Altar Guild, and the Ladies Missionary League.
Family members preceding her in death are Forrest Branch, Husband; William Hossfield, Father; Ida Hossfield, Mother; Freda Johannes, Sister; and Brothers, Hobert, Raymond and Robert Hossfield.
She is survived by her son, Ross Branch and wife Linda; Grandson Adam-Ross and wife Sarah; Great-Grandchildren Abriel and Leto; Grand-Daughter, Vanessa Branch; Daughter, Janet Dixon and Husband Kevin; Grandchildren Grant Dixon, Brett Dixon and wife Natalie; daughter, Betty Cowart; Grandchildren Forrest Cambell and wife Jessica; Great-Grandchildren Savannah and Isabella; and Grandson Timothy Cowart.
Dorothy was laid to rest at Roseburg Memorial Gardens along side her husband, Forrest. A memorial service will be held January 19, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sutherlin, Oregon. Memorial donation may be given to St. Johns Lutheran Church- Altar Guild.
