Of Scappoose, formerly of Roseburg Oregon, passed away August 8, 2011 at Rose Valley Assisted Living in Scappoose. She was 85. Dorothy was born Oct. 8, 1925 in Randolph Wisconsin to John and Inez (Hopkins) Dieckhoff and was the youngest of four children. She lived on a farm outside of Randolph until 1936 when her family moved to a farm just outside Junction City, Oregon. She graduated from high school in Junction City and then attended Oregon College of Education where she graduated in 1945 with a teaching certificate. While she was teaching in Junction City she met and married John Holbrook. They were married for 44 years until his death in 1990. She and John moved to Roseburg in 1952 where she taught 5th grade and coached girls' sports at Fullerton III School (now Fremont Junior High). She later taught at Fir Grove Elementary, and retired after teaching for 33 years in Roseburg. Dorothy moved from Roseburg to Creekside in Beaverton in 2003 so she could be closer to her son John and her sister Ruth Simpson. In 2009 she moved to Rose Valley Assisted Living in Scappoose. She enjoyed her hobbies; crocheting, knitting, and playing cards. She meticulously counted all of her stitches. She is survived by her two sons, John of Scappoose, and Tom of Los Vegas, Nevada; her grandchildren, Robert Curry, Jonathan, Brittani, and Victoria Holbrook; and her sister, Ruth Simpson of Portland. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and two brothers, Lorin and Harvey Dieckhoff. At her request a graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 16th at the Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
