"I was born in Springston Idaho in the Thirty's. Our family moved to Colville WA in 1949, cows and all. That winter it got down to 30 below zero and stayed there for 30 days. We thought we had moved to the North Pole. When I graduated I worked for my dad on the farm for a while. It was a lot of work but not much money.
I went to work in a little saw mill about 20 miles out of Colville making $1.50 hour three months later I went to Myrtle Creek Oregon. I went to work for Hanna Nickel Company at Riddle Oregon a new plant that was just starting out. After working there about a year I bought a new 1956 Ford, quit my job and started selling Rena Ware cooking pans. Winter set in, sales were hard to come by so I started working at Roseburg Lumber Company where I meet my wife Daisy. We married and moved back to the farm in Colville. Raising 4 kids and working the farm was a full time job, but I also joined the National Guards and took training to become an auctioneer. Dad and I worked the farm 10 more years until my mom Ellen crossed over and we sold the farm and moved back to Roseburg Oregon. We invested in a country store and 8 apartments located in Wilbur and had our last child.
I went back to work at Roseburg Lumber and stayed with them for Thirty years. I retired in 1996 and am now living the good life. Retirement suits me very well."
Dwayne Albert Nederhood crossed over January 8, 2016 at age 81 in the comforts of his home kicked back in his recliner with his dog "Tulip" in his lap. Dwayne lived a good life and enjoyed good health up until his flu shoot this year which his body wasn't able to recover from. We were all excited when he was able to come home from the Rehab center and spend Christmas with the family and New Year's playing BINGO. The family is grateful for the time we did get to spend with him over the holidays as he always made Christmas so special with his excitement when Santa came to the house with his bag of gifts and all the little ones went up one by one and had their special time with Santa. We did not expect he would be traveling to heaven as soon as he did but we are all happy he did not suffer and was up and going right until his last day. Dwayne always looked on the bright side of things and, even though he was recently in the hospital and rehab to build his strength up so he could go home. He was so thankful that there was such a facility and such loving people as those at Rose Haven to look after him. Dwayne was one of those guys that if you meet him you liked him and he never met a stranger. I remember as a kid asking him who that was that he was talking to in the grocery line and he would say "I don't know but they seemed like a good guy or gal." He wasn't always the best at remembering names but he always remembered faces and would take a few minutes to visit. Both of his gals would know he ran into someone if they didn't see him come out of the store in a timely fashion.
Dwayne was a hardworking man and very devoted to his family's wellbeing. He and Daisy were always willing to help family members or a neighbor in need and offer up a spot at the table to have a meal to nearly anyone that came in the door. Dwayne and Joy continued with that lifestyle, helping out others and being active with the Fair Oaks Community Church, Eagles, and Timber Valley SKP Park. He dearly loved his new home and the community he lived in. Dwayne enjoyed auctioning which he did as often as he could. His other hobbies included dancing, fishing, crabbing, hunting, BINGO, shooting the bull and, if there was a 777 machine around, he always had to poke a few dollars in just in case it was his day for his ship to come in.
Dwayne was preceded in death by his loving wife Daisy whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage with shortly before she passed in 2008. He also had 3 children go before him Monty Nederhood 1994, Roger Nederhood 2006, and Belinda Hamlin 2010. Surviving him is his son Leon Nederhood, and Leon's wife Michelle; his daughter Kathy Reeser, and Kathy's husband Ron; and his daughter -in - law Teresa Nederhood.
Dwayne met his current wife, Joy Fox, April 11, 2009 at a dance and it was love at first sight. They moved in together in September of 2010. Together they had 58 grand kids, including their great grandchildren, whom they loved.
Dwayne and Joy adopted their dog, Tulip, January 10th 2015. They took her to the dance and Dwayne danced with her on the dance floor before they brought her home. Tulip brought such joy to their lives this last year. The family would like to request instead of flowers please make a donation to Saving Grace of Roseburg or go there and adopt an animal to love.
