Elma Catherine Sathoff Trotter was born July 22, 1919 on a farm outside of Kilbourne, Illinois, the daughter of Lewis and Clara Holstlaw Sathoff. She went to the home which the Lord prepared for her on January 2, 2012 at the age of 92. She died of complications due to a stroke which occurred on November 11, 2011. She attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL. and Shurtleff College in Alton, IL. for one year each. She worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Peoria for five years. On June 5, 1949 she married Richard L. Trotter of Sheffield, IL at the First Baptist Church, Peoria, IL. She attended this church for several years, taught in the Sunday School and was active in the Baptist Youth Fellowship. She taught Sunday School for 21 years in the various churches she and her husband served: Mendon Congregational Church, Mendon, IL (1949-1954). Berea Congregational Church, Davenport, Iowa (1954-1960), Trinity United Protestant Church, Richland, Washington (1960-1966) and Condon United Church of Christ, Condon, Oregon (1966-1970). She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Roseburg, Oregon. For the last 2 1/2 years of her life she was a member of Ainsworth United Church of Christ, Portland, Oregon. She loved the out-of-doors and believed in being a good steward of God's creation. She was an active member of the Audubon Society, the Umpqua Wilderness Defenders, the Yokefellow Movement, the Democratic Party of Douglas County and AARP. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Clara Sathoff, a brother, Donald, and an identical twin sister, Velma (in 1991). She is survived by a sister, Wanda Hughes of Independence, Oregon; her husband of 62 years, Richard Trotter, Portland; four children: Rodney Trotter and wife, Debbie of Roseburg, Ore., Douglas Trotter and wife Jean Borgerding of Portland, Barbara Kyler and husband, Andrew of Portland, and Stephanie Trotter of Portland. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Cory, Emma (and husband Mark) Grabil, Thomas, Chantal (and husband, Gabriel) Krumbein, Amy Kyler, Rowan Borgerding and Garnet Trotter. She also has one great-grandchild by Chantal and Gabe Krumbein, Liesl. She is survived also by many well loved nieces and nephews.Her life celebration and memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian of Roseburg on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 1 pm. Burial will be at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. She will also have a memorial service at Ainsworth United Church of Christ, Portland Oregon at a later date.
