Eclectic adventurer Thelma Eloise Lamoreaux quietly passed away in her sleep on Friday, February 22 at the age of 93. Eloise was born in Oakland, Oregon on May 19, 1919 to Alfred and Pearl Hand (Manning).
Although Eloise lived only 200 yards from the house where she was born, she was a world traveler and was always ready for another trip to "see what was over the next horizon".
Eloise attended and graduated from Oakland Washington School in 1937 and was always proud to be an Oakland Oaker.
Eloise met and fell in love with that lucky son-of-a gun Ed Lamoreaux when she was 14 years old and were married on September 24, 1939. Through nearly 72 years of marriage, thick and thin, ups and downs; they were partners in life.
Eloise belonged to numerous organizations and clubs in the area including: the Umpqua Valley Timber Cruisers, the Douglas County Search and Rescue Team, Oakland School District Budget Committee, Oakland Boosters, numerous historical societies and museums, and was one of the founding members of the Sutherlin Senior Center. Ed and Eloise also owned and sponsored the Intramural LX Logging softball team for many years. Eloise enjoyed travelling, gardening, and most importantly; making cherished memories with loved ones and family. She lived a good, long life filled with family, love, and memories that will pass through the generations.
Survivors include: Son, Jon Lamoreaux and wife Kathy of Silverton; daughter, Jean Kellum and husband Doug of Sutherlin; grandchildren, Joseph Bishop of Sutherlin, Atticus Lamoreaux and wife Annemarie of Oakland, Jenny Radmer and husband Scott of Sutherlin, Jonathan Lamoreaux and wife Jamie of Silverton, Jeff Lamoreaux of Silverton; Great-grandchildren, Jenica and Emily Lamoreaux of Oakland, Ashley and Zach Radmer of Sutherlin, and Cora Lamoreaux of Silverton. Public viewing will be held at the Sutherlin Chapel of the Roses Thursday, February 28 at 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday March 1, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. in the Fair Oaks Community Church with a graveside service to follow. Pastor Susan Brown will officiate. A reception will follow the graveside service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sutherlin Senior Center.
