Evelyn Mae Luthy Boyles passed away on Monday, June 28, 2010. She was born May 5, 1918, in Peoria, Illinois, the oldest of three sisters, to William and Grace Luthy. In 1936, after graduating from high school, she attended a 3-year nursing program at J.C. Proctor Hospital in Peoria then enrolled in McMurray College earning her nursing degree. She began working in the University of Chicago clinics where she met husband to be, Dwight Boyles, who was doing his dentistry internship at the University of Chicago. They were married in 1942. The family moved from Illinois to Roseburg, Oregon in 1951 where Evelyn began working at Douglas County Community Hospital, working there for many years. Her many patients were treated with her caring compassion and high degree of professional expertise. Along with her nursing career she was a devoted mother and wife. She loved to cook, was an ardent gardener, and enthusiastic birder. She loved Oregon and loved living on the North Umpqua River, which she considered the most beautiful river in all of creation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight, and her son, Jim. She is survived by her son, Dee Boyles, and his wife, Laura TenBroeck of McMinnville, Oregon. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the National Audubon Society or Saint Paul Lutheran Church of Roseburg. A memorial service for Evelyn will be held at Saint Paul Lutheran Church of Roseburg on Saturday, July 10th at 1:00 pm.
