Aka "Mammer," age 92, of Roseburg, passed away on March 18, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center with her loving children by her side. She was born August 19, 1923, in Jamestown, North Dakota, to Mary C. Mason LaFond and Frank Xavier LaFond. She graduated from St. John's Academy in Jamestown, ND, and entered St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Fargo, HD in August, following graduation. She graduated with her RN in nursing in 1945. She worked as an RN at the former Trinity Hospital for two years and, in 1947, she moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where she met, fell in love and married Frank D. Sale, who was a member of the United States Air Force. They were married in Jamestown, ND, at St. James Catholic Church on January 25, 1949, by Father Edward Gerharty. In 1950, they moved from Colorado Springs to Riverside, California and then to Guam in 1954. In 1956, they returned to the United States and lived in Concord, CA, while Frank was still active in the Air Force. In 1964, Frank retired from the military after 28 years and, with their three children, they chose to make Roseburg, Oregon their new home. Norinne lived in Roseburg until her passing. She worked for Mercy Medical Center for many years in the Recovery Room, until she retired on November 7, 1986, after 41 years of nursing and giving all she had to give to those that needed her loving care.
She and Frank spent many, many years dancing, camping, travelling and playing cards with their children, grandchildren and their many friends. They were the perfect example of what it meant to love and be loved. They raised their three children in a loving home with unconditional love, no hatred, no racism, and respect for all. Their children were taught patriotism, honor and In God we Trust. She is finally reunited with "her fella," who she missed terribly and we are sure they are dancing away to the sounds of "Heaven's Big Band." Norinne had continued to play bridge with two of her ladies bridge groups until the time of her passing.
Norinne was preceded in death after 48 ½ years of married by her husband Frank, the love of her life; and also by her parents; brothers John and Dan; and her sister Catherine. Survivors include her three children who adored her, daughters Pamela Sale and Sandy K. (Wayne) Bratton of Roseburg, and son Gregory Sale of Eugene; three grandchildren, Christy (Joe) Melvin, Matthew Garrett, and Misha Sale; six great-grandchildren Lance, Cody, Kaden, McKenna, Kylan and Kellen; and numerous nephews and nieces in Medford, North Carolina and Texes. To her children, she will always be our "Angel." To her grandchildren she was always and will always be known by their special name of "Mammer." She will be missed more than words can express but her spirit lives on in all of us.
Services will be Wednesday, March 30, 2016. A mass will be said at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 12:10 - 1:10 p.m., and a celebration of Norinne's Life will be at 1:30 at the Chapel of the Roses.
