In Loving Memory of Frank Joseph Heller
June 18, 1946 – June 26, 2018
Frank Heller, 72, passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2018. The son of Frank John Heller and Gloria Tomsey was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1946. In 1956, the Heller family moved to Alaska homesteading in Eagle River and later residing in Wrangell. Frank graduated from Seattle High School in 1965. Following high school graduation, he completed the AMP certification through the Federal Aviation Agency in 1965. In 1967, Frank joined the Air National Guard as a helicopter mechanic and also served as a crew chief. Continuing his career in the service, Frank transferred to the Army and completed twenty-three years before retiring as an E6 Staff Sergeant.
Frank was a skilled gill netter and had a successful forty year career as a commercial fisherman in Bristol Bay, AK. Additionally, Frank was a talented craftsman and built homes. In his later years, he enjoyed being a cowboy on his ranch.
Frank is survived by his wife, Connie Heller of eighteen years. A sister, Gloria Parsons and her husband, Alan Parsons: Daughters, Lelia Heller Cloninger, Jennifer Heller, CNM, and her husband Dr. Murray Buttner, Teal Sky Heller and her husband, Russ Carpenter. Stepchildren: Laura Rowen and her husband, Gary Rowen, and John Slanker. Four grandchildren: Conner Ehmann, Sophia Ehmann, Natalie Buttner and Sam Buttner; Nieces and nephews: Steven Parsons, Betsy Marsh, David Parsons, Rachel Heller and Amy Heller. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, David Heller and his wife, Marsha Heller. Family, friends and others whose lives were touched by Frank.
Frank enjoyed telling stories and community out-reach with King Miracle Max, his dog.
A memorial service will be held on July 6th, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Family Church, 878 W Sixth Avenue, Sutherlin, OR 97479. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the Family Church Children’s Ministry. A reception to follow.
