PAYNTER, Freda Lee. - Age 89, of Sutherlin, Oregon. Her beloved spirit went to be with the Lord on May 28, 2011. She was born on November 27, 1921, in Vermillion, Illinois, to William Belle Hardy and Gertrude Ethel Lewis. Later, the family moved to Corona, California, where she met and married the love of her life Chester Carl "Curly" Paynter in 1942. Both of them moved around the country while Curly was taking part in U. S. Army Air Corps training, because she always wanted to be with him. When Curly was sent to England as part of the Eighth Air Force, she patiently awaited his safe return in Corona. At the end of the WWII, they moved to Cottage Grove, Oregon, followed by a brief stay in Scottsburg before finally settling in Sutherlin in 1950. Together, they operated Carburetor and Electric Service for twenty-eight years and raised a family. She was actively involved in Cub Scouts, Business Women's Club, Sutherlin Bowling League and Take off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Club. She also had a great love for the Lord and her church family at the Neighborhood Church of Christ. She is survived by her sister, Marie Belle; her children; Carolyn L. Paynter, Margaret J. (Pepiot) Stowe and Stephen C. Paynter (Ellie); her grandchildren Angelique Pepiot-Vandercreek (Gene), Aaron Pepiot (Dicy), and Andrea Pepiot-Shaver (Scott); Nine Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gertrude Hardy; her husband Chester Carl Paynter (2004); her infant son Paul; her brother, Floyd, her sisters Edith and Rozella. The family is planning a "Celebration of Freda's Life" at the Neighborhood Church of Christ, Sutherlin, Oregon, on June 5th, 2011, starting at 2:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff at Chantele's for their loving care of Freda during her stay there.
