Of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away December 9, 2014. He was 71. Garry was born November 3, 1943, in Hanford, California, to Thomas Moore Jr. and Faye M. Fry (now deceased). He was the oldest of four children.
Garry graduated from Del Norte County High School, Crescent City, CA, in 1961. He attended American River College in Sacramento, CA, and joined the Marine Corps in 1964. He served active duty in Vietnam. At the end of his tour of duty, as a Sergeant, he was stationed in London, England as a Marine guard at the U.S. Embassy. It was there he met and married Donna Cassoni. Their son David Moore was born in 1972, in Roseburg after Garry's military service ended.
Many may remember Garry from "Harold & Garry's Chevron" station located at the Diamond Lake triangle during the early 70's. He also worked at Mohr Well Drilling. In 1980, he began working at Austin Powder Company where he started out loading trucks then worked his way up to become an Explosives Technician/Salesman. He enjoyed working there and made many friends. He was well respected among his peers. Garry decided to retire in 2009.
Garry had a passion for NHRA Drag racing and attended many such events with his son David. He also loved dune buggies and hanging out with friends. Recently, he began attending Doc Stewart baseball games with his good friend Larry Edmonson.
Garry is survived by his son David Moore, granddaughter Domenica Moore, and great-granddaughter Ily Moore all of Roseburg. He is also survived by his step-father Jim Fry, who has been an important part of his life since the early 60s; Sister Pam (and Bill) Hirsh of Eugene; brother Terrell (and Capri) Moore of Roseburg; and brother Farrell (and Carol) Moore of Roseburg. Numerous nieces and nephews will remember him as a kind and gentle uncle.
Garry touched many lives. His contagious smile was known and felt by many. Attending family events was very important to him, as well as spending time watching cartoons and reading books to his precious great-granddaughter Ily (age 3).
A "Celebration of Life" for Garry will be held Sunday, December 21, 2014, 3 p.m. at the Winston Community Center.
