They volunteered their airplanes and time to Red Cross and Angels of Mercy, assisting with search and rescue missions. George kept a small plane and flew as late as his early 80s.
When not employed in the timber industry George worked as a Special Deputy with Humboldt County Sheriff's Department, California State Parks and State Department of Corrections and National Park Service.
George and his second wife of 44 years, Joanne, returned to southern Oregon in 2012 (DATE?). Joanne passed away in June 2020. The family will host a small memorial for George and Joanne in Roseburg at a later date.
