George Melvin Good

June 20, 1938 — March 3, 2011

Age 72, of Winston, Oregon passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, March 3, 2011. Born June 20, 1938 in Pueblo, Colorado to Glen Francis and Juanita (Bowman) Good and moved with his parents to the Olalla-Tenmile area in 1946. He attended the Upper Olalla, one-room schoolhouse, Tenmile Elementary and Douglas High and was active in Boy Scouts. In 1960, George married Dolly Cluff. He began his work life at Paul B. Hult Lumber, worked over 16 years at Douglas County Lumber and retired from Sunrise Enterprises. George struggled with a developmental disability but kept himself constantly occupied with his hobbies of gold panning, coin collecting, weaving and listening to Country Western music. His beloved grandfather, Melvin Miles Good, taught him gold panning which became a life-long obsession he highly enjoyed. He was often seen riding his 3-wheel bike back and forth to Olalla, Roseburg and around Winston. George was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church & had dedicated himself to Jesus Christ. George is survived by his son, Gordon Melvin Good of Roseburg; sister, Diane Carr of Phoenix, AZ; brothers, Glen and wife, Lisa Good of Oakland and Gail Good of Roseburg; sisters, Mary and husband, Steve Hammell of Roseburg and Gretchen and husband, Steve Dean of Creswell. Also surviving are nieces Jean, Mary, Victoria, Sandi, Misha and Meghan; nephews, Tony, Sebastian, Quenton, Preston, Dustin and Matthew and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary Glen and an infant son, Gary Melvin. Join the family for a celebration of George's life on Thursday, March 10, 3p.m. at Winston Community Center, 440 SE Grape St., Winston.
