Gearald D. Davis, age 83 of Sutherlin, Oregon passed away March 16, 2012, at the VA Hospital in Roseburg, Oregon after losing a battle with cancer. His service will be at Sutherlin Chapel of the Roses at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012 with Pastor Bill Sanders officiating. Dave and his wife, Emmie will be buried at a later date in Washta, Iowa.
Dave was born to Jack and Ila Davis February 1, 1929 in Correctionville, Iowa. At an early age he moved to Sioux City, Iowa where he attended school. At the age of 17 he joined the US Navy where he served on the USS Forrestal and had the pleasure of working with the Blue Angels.
At Oxnard, California he met the love of his life, Emmie Holley. They were married in Norfork, Virginia in 1957. From there they traveled wherever the Navy sent him. After seeing most of world, he retired in 1969 and went to work at the test site at Las Vegas where they made their home until they discovered Sutherlin in 1986 and this was home.
He is survived by a sister, Alyce Leopold and her husband Harold of Sioux City, Iowa; two half brothers, Allen Greenough and his wife Brita of Ankeny, Iowa; and Darrell Greenough and his wife Barb of Sioux City, Iowa; several nieces and nephews and a special friend Mike Nation. Preceding him in death, his wife, his parents and an older brother Charles.
