Gerald (Jerry) Otis Palmer beloved husband to Bethel L. Dunnihoo Palmer and father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2023, at the family home in Roseburg, Oregon. His family was with him leading up to and at the time of his death.
“Jerry” was born Sept 13, 1927, in Kampeska, South Dakota, to parents Ray B. Palmer and Melvina E. Palmer. He was the fifth of six siblings, Delbert, Irma, Leroy, Mavis, Jerry and Lila, who are deceased.
Jerry worked at the Watertown Municipal Golf Course in South Dakota, where his dad was also employed. He was drafted out of high school and served in the U.S. Army in Korea and served during peacetime as an Air Force Airman in England. He worked at various jobs in Roseburg and retired from CP National Gas after thirty years.
Gerald met his wife to be Bethel L. Dunnihoo in Roseburg, Oregon. They were married on Sept 23, 1955, in Grants Pass, Oregon. They will have been together for 68 years this year. “Jer” always considered Bethel his “one true love”.
Jerry and Bethel raised their family in Roseburg. Grown children are Sue (Del) Applegarth, Nick (Maureen) Palmer and Chris (Diane) Palmer, grandson Casey (Alexis) Applegarth, granddaughter Carrie Applegarth, and a total of seven great-grandchildren.
His ashes will be interred with the family graves at the century-old Civil Bend Pioneer Cemetery in Winston, Oregon. A Celebration of Life for friends and family will happen on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Noon. A lunch will be provided after; please RSVP. The events will take place at the Earle B Stewart American Legion Post 16, 406 SE Oak Street, Roseburg OR 97470.
