Gertrude (Trudy) Helen Skinner (June 15, 1932 - June 21, 2016)
On the crest of a rare "Strawberry" moon, our beloved mother, Trudy, was called home to be with Jesus. She succumbed to complications of her chronic lung disease. She is survived by her adult children: Rod (and wife Carolyn), Roylene (and husband Gene Cooper), Roger (and wife Annie), Roland, and Robyn (and husband Steve Johnston). She is also survived by four grandchildren (Alan Cooper, Rowda Felkel, James Johnston and Sabine Skinner) and one great-grandchild (Madelyn Felkel). She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Roy Charles Skinner.
Trudy was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and grew up in the Buckeye area of Arizona. As a young girl, she loved to roam the desert and to help her daddy trap game in the White Tank Mountains. She and her husband began their married life in Arizona but later moved to California and then on to Oregon. When her youngest child started school, Trudy went to school with her as an elementary school Teacher's Aide and later as a Library Assistant (Dayton Elementary School, Dayton, OR). She loved working with children and particularly enjoyed reading them stories - as well as decorating the Library to match the seasonal themes.
In her life, Trudy had many interests: she never met a stranger; loved and spoiled everyone's pets; enjoyed singing hymns and solos in church; was an award winning master hand-stitch quilter; was an avid reader; loved corresponding via hand-written letters; she liked to draw pictures and has crafted many bulletin boards; she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and word jumbles; was a fabulous cook; loved the Arizona desert; loved the California and Oregon beaches; loved the mountains and rivers of the Pacific Northwest. She had a ready smile for everyone, and was always a good neighbor and loyal friend (she had made and kept in contact with many life-long friends).
Though we miss her terribly, she is now at peace. We love you Mom!
