Gertrude Marion "Marion" Nichol

GERTRUDE "MARION" NICHOL, born Gertrude Marion Gasser on January 5, 1922, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on August 1, 2014. She spent her entire childhood in Denver, Colorado where she still has family. While still in high school she worked as a receptionist for a doctor and graduated from West High in 1939. Mom married Dad Charles L. "Nick" Nichol on June 3, 1942 while he was stationed in Denver with the Army Air Corps. After being stationed throughout the USA they went to England in 1951 and returned to Caswell AFB, Texas in 1954. In 1956 they divorced and she moved with her children to California to be close to family. she worked in the family business, Gasser Bronze and Aluminum until she got a job with the civil service working at the Naval Station in Long Beach where she made many lifelong friends. Mom later got a job at the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station from which she retired on August 22, 1984 and moved to Oregon to live with her daughter. Marion lived a very fulfilling life that overflowed with joy, happiness and love. She was preceded in death by her mother Gertrude Victoria Gasser, father Louis Joseph Gasser; brothers Raymond, Louis, Ralph, Robert Gasser and sister Margaret Tabak. Survivors include her sister Marie Efurd of Murrieta, California; two children Vicki Lou Grout of Roseburg, Oregon and Jon Paul Nichol and his wife DiAnne of Little Rock, Arkansas; son-in-law Raymond Grout; grandchildren Deborah Grout, Raymond "Scott" Grout, Eric "Rick Grout Sr., Vanessa Brech and her husband Gene, Sean Nichol and his wife Aimee and Kimberly Carter; great grandchildren Jennifer Standish and her husband Jared, Teresa Bryant-Wheeler and her husband Chris, Rebecca Bryant, Baylee New, Jacobb Nichol, Gracie New, Alex Nichol, Hope Nichol, Eric Grout Jr., Joshua Grout, Grant Nichol, Landon Crosby, Lily Crosby and Matthew Grout; great great grandchildren Brittany Standish, Emielia Standish and Nicholas Wheeler; special family friend Amanda Cook and her children Dante cook and Kira Cook; special friend Julie Kerner along with a host of nieces, nephews and their families; many friends from all over the world including her best friend Jackie Page of Huntington Beach, California; many in the community of Myrtle Creek and the Tri-City Presbyterian Church. Those who wish may pay their respects from 9:00 AM until 7:00 pm Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses. Following the service there will be a celebration of her life at 456 Tipton Road, Roseburg, OR 97470.
