Age 94, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013. Glenn was born to parents, Jennings Glenn Chambers and Nancy Ann Dodrill Chambers on December 15, 1918 in Whittier, California. Glenn was a veteran of WWll, and a POW. He was with the 84th Army infantry, qualified as a specialist sharpshooter. Glenn was captured in Germany during battle at the Sigfried line. He was freed at the end of the war and returned to his hometown, Whittier, CA, where he took care of his parents for the rest of their lives. Glenn worked at Sears as a gunsmith for the next 35 years. In 2006 he moved to Riverview Terrace, in Roseburg, to live right across the hall from his sister, Mary Ellen (Chambers) Arnett-Gwin.
While in Whittier, Glenn was active in the senior center. He made a DVD about his experiences during WWll. This DVD was taken to the schools to teach students more about the war. His DVD and memoirs can be accessed through the Library of Congress website. After moving to Roseburg, Glenn continued to educate young people about the war by going to the schools with other veterans and speaking of their experiences. Glenn attended many veterans celebrations and received honors from the Roseburg Veterans Association. He also attended and rode in the Veterans Day parades. At all of these events and on National holidays that celebrated our Nation, he would wear his old army uniform. Glenn was a hero to his family, he loved his country.
Glenn was an avid fisherman, both deepsea and freshwater. He loved taking his nieces and nephews and friends to his special fishing spots. He was a loving family man, he always wanted to make sure his family was taken care of, especially his sister, Mary Ellen. We will always cherish his unselfish, giving ways.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Ellen (Chambers) Arnett-Gwin; niece Judy Arnett Parker of Bend, OR; nephew, Gary Arnett of Redding, CA and niece Nancy Arnett Rentschler of Roseburg, OR.
The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Terrace, The Mercy hospice staff and the Doctors at Mercy Medical Center for their care and comfort, both for Glenn and our family.
