Jody Abston

November 7, 1940 — May 15, 2021

On November 7, 1940, Jody was born as Gloria Joanne Dildine in Decatur, Illinois. She grew up going by her middle name until she eventually preferred to be called Jody. She passed away on May 15, 2021 at Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg, Oregon.

Jody was preceded in death by her father Louis Dildine, her mother and stepfather Martha and Haskell Walker, her brothers Louis Dildine Jr, Danny Walker, Michael Dildine and Oron Plimpton, her daughter Julie Hickman, her son Arthur Barr, and her grandson Dexter Barr. She is survived by her son Jesse Barr and his wife Karen, her daughter Joanne Barr, her daughter Peggy Parlette and her husband John, her stepdaughter Vickie Abston, her brothers Gene Spellbring, David Dildine and Pat Dildine, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.

In 1965 Jody was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Although she suffered memory problems due to Alzheimer's, she never forgot her love for Jehovah God.

For most of her career she worked in the hospitality industry. She filled many roles over the years, working as a waitress, bartender, restaurant manager, front desk manager and hotel shuttle driver. For the last 32 years of her career she worked for the Thunderbird / Red Lion Inn.

Jody had a deep love for animals which she shared with her children. She enjoyed many pets over her lifetime. While raising her kids she had cats, dogs, birds, ponies, horses, and at one point even a monkey! In her final years, the apple of her eye was her dear cat "Buddy".

Jody will be remembered most for her warm personality and the love she showed to us all. She will be greatly missed. We look forward to seeing her again when God's promised resurrection is fulfilled. - Acts 24:15
